Starting with ideas inspired by traditional Indian design, artisans begin at the drawing board creating patterns and then hand carve these intricate designs onto wooden blocks that become large stamps. These stamps and hand mixed dyes are then used to imprint the designs onto cotton fabric. The fabric has been crafted using cotton grown in the Himalayan mountains that is picked, processed, and woven all by hand! The fabric is cut to the specified pattern, and artisans use foot powered sewing machines to construct each bag. This crossbody features a large convenient pocket on the outside, and two compartments inside.
JOYN partners with marginalized artisans in India to build strong businesses and healthy, thriving communities. They diligently serve their community through access to medical care, vocational training, childcare, micro-loans, life-skill training, counseling and much more. The goal is not to give a temporary handout, but to move the community toward real transformation and local businesses toward long-term sustainability through job creation.
