ABOUT THE ARTISAN

Mercy House Global is located just outside Houston, Texas, a city of more than 70,000 refugees one of the largest populations in the USA. MHG employs about ten women who have resettled in Houston. This group of artisans is called Local Hope, and created candles, spa products, and home decor for the MHG fair trade line.

MORE ABOUT THE ARTISANS: Diaa and Ebtesam

Diaa: The first thing you notice about Diaa is her smile. Diaa throws back her head and laughs at the smallest joys. She is usually humming a tune and sways to her own music. Diaa is one of our expert candlemakers and uses the income she makes to help her family with living expenses. Diaa said her new skill will bring her closer to her dream of one day buying a home.

Ebtesam: Ebtesam one of our skilled candle and soap makers moved to the United States from Syria in December 2015. Ebtesam describes Syria as "so pretty and nice" before the war. When things became dangerous, her family was forced to flee their home. Ebtesam is a good person with a great work ethic. Mother of seven, Ebtesam tries to raise her kids to be good students and good people. With the money she has earned from working with Mercy House Global, she was able to purchase airline tickets for some of her family to go to Jordan to see family they have not seen in 14 years! She is so excited to be able to do this!
